Faial da Terra
A little over an hours drive from Ponta Delgada,in the south east of the island, Faial da Terra sat on the coast, nestled in a deep beautiful valley.
A peacefull village of 300 inhabitants, split by a powerful riverwhich descends from pico da vara.
The village nickname is “the island manger”.
The village is well isolated as you descend into the valley from the surrounding peaks, you will gaze upon the stunning landscape consisting in ocean, mountains, and forest typical to the Azores.
In this vibrant village you will find few tourists, and will instantly feel welcome by the friendly locals.
You will find all the basic commodities here, including grocery store, two cafés and a restaurant, phone box, internet access.
Daily you will find local traders selling fresh fish, vegetables, bread…
There are bus services for Ponta Delgada, Povoacao, Furnas.
The closest town is Povoaçao, 9km away. Here you will find number of small supermarket, fruit and vegetable stores, butcher, fishmongers, restaurants. You will also find a hospital and pharmacy for emergencies.

The village is the strategic point for several walking trails, you can bath in the ocean and there is a small swimming pool filled with river water in the summer.
It is possible to fish, dive and snorkel, this part of the coast is famous for its diversity.
In the district of Povoacao, you can try paragliding, mountain biking, horse riding, golf.
This is a very natural and undeveloped part of the island, we are on the edge of the island, with famous viewing points and the region of Nordeste is well preserved.
Just behind Faial you can explore the tronqueira and the Pico da vara.
Also to the west, at about 20km distance, you will find Furnas and Ribeira Quente, where you can explore beaches, thermal baths, caldeiras, lakes and incredibles sites.
